CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

The health of every organisation depends on the quality of its Corporate Governance structures and compliance. Corporate Governance has assumed pre-eminent position because it now defines the benchmark for good corporate behaviour. Experience has shown that companies and organisations with effective corporate governance culture perform better and are able to drive sustainability.

Today, however big or small an organisation, wherever it is located and whether public or private, stakeholders demand very high standards of corporate behaviour at all levels;

  • At the statutory Board level and the executive level,
  • In processes, systems and functions,
  • In the integrity of the results communicated to the public,
  • In the way risk is managed, and
  • At the level of the community and environment protection.

Corporate Governance has now been pushed beyond just conformance onto a strategic platform where it becomes a key driver of sustainable performance. Hence for organisations to remain viable and relevant, their corporate governance practices must be impeccable.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT AND GROWTH

Leadership is critical for the success of every organisation and it is even more so now than ever before. In the past decade or so we have been in the midst of a global economic revolution that were driven by dominating factors such as;

  • Globalization and the adoption of liberalized market economies, exasperated by disruptions in supply chains,
  • The rapid and startling digital revolution, most apparent in the impact on value chains and how the world is now working,
  • The evolution of different Business Models and the implications on how organisations create value.

These present a time of great opportunities as well as threats for organisation, it is important that they lead in the development of their current and future leaders with the right skills and profiles at all levels in the organization who can ensure sustainable growth and profitability through the decisions they take. In recent past these factors have been over laid by a global pandemic which is further redefining the way organizations will survive and compete.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This Leadership programme will help participants;

  • Identify the potential leaders,
  • Define a clear strategy – both organisational and personal,
  • Focus on transformational and growth leadership qualities,
  • Develop values and behaviours that build, and

MAKING REWARD SYSTEM A TOOL FOR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY

Once the framework for “Performance Management” has been set, it is important to underpin it with an appropriate Reward System to drive superior performance. The reward system of your organisation will either raise productivity and create value, or destroy value and possibly, the future of the organisation.

In a fast-changing environment where organisations face difficult market conditions and in which growth and profitability are under intense pressure, both employers and employees must work together ensure sustained productivity within a balanced framework for sharing the rewards. This Programme will help you build transparency and cohesion into your reward system, and create the motivation for higher performance and increased productivity.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The Performance Management programme will help participants to:

  • Understand the nature of performance and the elements that drive value creation;
  • Understand the link between strategy and performance management;

TARGET - Managers, supervisors and frontline operators involved in the implementation of strategy and who make key day-to-day decisions on operations.

OPTIMIZING ORGANIZATIONS FOR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY

When organizations and businesses clearly define and articulate their vision and strategies, the potential obstacles to the achievement of the strategies are the “way they are set up to work” and “how they actually work”. In many instances, the processes and systems in an organization address internal convenience and resolve short-term control issues. The effect is complexity and cost from ineffectively structured and/or conflicting systems and processes that do not add value to the business or its customers.

It is important to review the systems and processes to build an organisation that is well aligned to the delivery of strategy, and agile and adaptable to the current and future needs of the organisation to drive efficiency, growth, and productivity. In some organisations, this will require a complete ‘Greenfield’ exercise to design a new structure, systems, and processes aligned to the delivery of strategy.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This Module will show participants how to:

  • Align the processes and systems of the organization to its strategic objectives;
  • To build efficiency into these processes and systems;
  • Align the company structure to drive the generation of value for the organisation;
  • Use your structure, processes, and systems as strategic tools to drive growth.

METHODOLOGY The programme combines pre-programme preparations by participants, presentations and plenary discussions using tools and models for conducting process and system reviews and organisational realignment.

TARGET - Managers, supervisors and frontline operators involved in the implementation of strategy and who make key day-to-day decisions on operations.

BUSINESS APPRECIATION – A PREREQUISITE FOR ALL STAFF

Businesses are set up to create value for all stakeholders in a manner that is sustainable. It is in the interest of all these stakeholders to work together to ensure the business delivers optimum performances out of which they can all benefit.

The evidence from many businesses shows that sometimes managers and supervisors do not fully appreciate how businesses work. There is a lack of understanding of why businesses are set up, what all stakeholders are responsible for and should expect. They are not fully aware of the external and internal factors that affect businesses how those factors impact the performance and ultimately the finances of the business. This lack of understanding and appreciation sometimes causes conflict between stakeholders, especially shareholders, directors, managers and staff. Many times this conflicts results in entrenched positions instead of converging effort to create value for all.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The Business Appreciation programme is designed to help participants to:

  • Understand the concept of “Business”;
  • Appreciate the links between external and internal factors and the Performance of the Business;
  • Understand the Key Performance Indicators of Businesses and what drive them;
  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and expectations of stakeholders; and
  • Appreciate how Businesses can build solutions for optimum performances.

METHODOLOGY This is a mixture of plenary presentations/discussions, syndicate work/case studies and the application of practical modern day experiences and examples from the world of business. The programme is highly interactive.

TARGET - The programme is for all managers, supervisors and key staff from all functions in the organisation who are responsible for implementing strategy and delivering Business results.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND TARGET SETTING

Companies are established to create value for their stakeholders on a sustainable basis. To do this there must to be a clear understanding of what value is to be created, what needs to be done to create the value and how it is going to be measured. The performance of an organization and the way the organization is aligned to its goals will determine how successful that company or organisation will be.

The challenge for many companies is to develop a framework that can help them drive sustainable strong performance.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The Performance Management will help you to:

  • Understand the nature of business and the elements that drive performance;
  • Understand the link between company strategy and performance management;
  • Acquire the tools that will assist participants to develop a performance management framework;
  • Acquire the tools that will assist participants to set targets for performance measurements and for monitoring and evaluation;
  • Understand the interdependency of individuals, teams and functions to deliver company targets.

METHODOLOGY This programme is highly interactive in both plenary and syndicate sessions. It uses Presentations and Case Studies to help participants to use the various tools for the development and implementation of a Performance Management Framework.

ORGANISATIONAL TEAM BUILDING

It is not enough to have very highly skilled individuals in any organisation, it is even more important that the individuals learn to work in teams and apply their hearts to what they do. In every organisation the output of the whole team should be much greater than the sum of the individual outputs put together.

Research shows that teams go through a cycle of forming, storming, norming and performing. Companies need to understand and respond to these cycles. Apart from the “hard” targets like turnover, profit, productivity and so on teams also bond into high performing teams on “soft” issues such as honesty, transparency, trust and support for each other. Effective teams have been identified as a core factor to organizational success.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This Module will help participants:

  • Surrender individual interests to the common interest; build a sense of interdependency i.e. Build a convergence of the “I” of the individual to that of the “Team” aspirations;
  • To use the team aspirations to drive individual aspirations;
  • To use targeting and reward systems to drive team behaviour;
  • To use the team platform to drive high performance in the organisation’s aspirations;
  • To understand team dynamics;
  • Identify their individual strengths and contribution to the team;
  • Contribute collectively to define what their team/leadership behaviours will be to achieve common goals; and
  • Engage with hearts to deliver the team objectives.

METHODOLOGY This program is designed to help individuals in your team to reflect on themselves and their roles in the team. It is also a feedback period from other team members on what works and what does not work. The programme is based on individual and team exercises designed to identify and enhance leadership and team qualities.

CONSOLIDATING CHANGE MANAGEMENT

Not many organizations recognize that change is inevitable in our constantly changing environment. In a great number of situations change is imposed on organisations. Ideally change ought to be initiated by organizations to secure the future which in turn makes them relevant in the market place.

Many organizations also go through change processes only to arrive at where they were when they began. Managing change does not only mean putting a change plan on the table but it also involves making the key decisions that serve as catalyst to achieve and consolidate the desired changes. It requires commitment to the execution of the planned changes.

Leaders need to accept the inevitability of change, understand the obstacles associated with change and the hard decisions that are required to effect the necessary turn-around. Organisations only have two choices – to change and consolidate the change or die.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This Module will help participants:

  • Define the “why” for the change and set clear objectives for the Change;
  • Understand the nature of the change and anticipate when and how the obstacles to change occur;
  • Manage the change process and monitor the desired outcomes;
  • Identify what will motivate employees for sustained commitment to the change programmes;
  • Define the process for review and evaluation;
  • Produce a scorecard with milestones to facilitate the evaluation process.

METHODOLOGY A combination of case studies and interactive discussions in teams.

FROM ‘CUSTOMER CARE’ TO ‘LOYALTY TO THE CUSTOMER’

“Customer Care” has become a jargon for many organisations and yet their day-to-day interactions with customers at all levels in the organisation do not match what they promise. The expectation of many organisations is that their customers become and remain loyal to them. They complain or are frustrated when their customers express that they are not satisfied with the service they provide.

Sometimes customers have no choice than to deal with such an organisation therefore the relationship is a weak one and sometimes results in the customers looking for other ways of getting the services they require.

Organisations never pause long enough to find out whether they have been loyal or disloyal to their consumers/customers. The new thinking today is that loyalty to your customers is the only way to generate loyalty from them and increase value for the organisation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: This programme is designed to help participants to:

  • Define the principles that should govern customer relationships;
  • Identify the key governance issues;
  • Identify the roles organisations should play in delivering the promises they make to their customers;
  • Examine their capacity to deliver the promises they make to their customers;
  • Understand how to involve customers in developing strategies and plans;
  • Define clearly the role they expect customers to play in the relationship; and
  • Validate the rewards that should accrue to both parties and how equitable they are.

METHODOLOGY The Programme uses lectures, case studies and syndicate discussions to develop understanding of the key issues.

HARNESSING TALENT AND PERFORMANCE FOR HIGHER PRODUCTIVITY

Though every organisation is relevant only if it is able to create sustained value for its stakeholders, there are often varied interpretations of what sustained value means to the different stakeholders and what it takes to get it.

A clear understanding of what value is relevant, what needs to be done to create the value, and how it is going to be measured is the first step in developing a framework for managing and sustaining the performance of individuals in order to deliver strong organisational performance.

Corporate Governance has now been pushed beyond just conformance onto a strategic platform where it becomes a key driver of sustainable performance. Hence for organisations to remain viable and relevant, their corporate governance practices must be impeccable.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: The Performance Management programme will help participants to:

  • Understand the nature of performance and the elements that drive value creation;
  • Understand the link between strategy and performance management;
  • Acquire the tools to develop a performance management framework;
  • Acquire the tools to set targets for performance measurements and for monitoring and evaluation;
  • Understand the interdependency of individuals, teams, and functions to deliver company targets.

METHODOLOGY This programme combines presentations and highly interactive plenary and syndicate sessions as well as case studies to help participants in the development and implementation of Performance Management Frameworks.

TARGET - Managers, supervisors and frontline operators involved in the implementation of strategy and who make key day-to-day decisions on operations.
